Tenathon Charity Day Summary

Hi everyone!

Well, what a fantastic Club day it was with such incredible support, both financially and spiritually!

Thirty-six CLTC stalwarts and with their family and friends turned out to support our wonderful coach Roy Richardson play 12 hours of tennis against Chorleywood’s finest.  Many helpers on the day running the kitchen & bar ensured everything ran like clockwork.

Starting promptly at 10am, Roy breezed through the pre-lunch sessions, drinking mainly tea with sugar to keep him going.  The afternoon sessions were slightly interrupted by some very short (literally 4-5 minutes) sharp showers, one with hailstones but it didn’t stop the proceedings.  Somewhat surprisingly, there was not a Lucozade or a Beer to be seen with Roy, however the supporters seemed rather more willing to endorse the bar.  As darkness fell there was still no sign of tiredness with Roy, the floodlights seem to recharge him as on and on he went.  The last session finished at 10pm with club members spontaneously forming a ‘guard of honour’ and applauding Roy as he came off court; thoroughly deserved!

The drinks flowed, the raffle prizes were drawn and everyone stayed late into the night chatting about what a marvellous, worthwhile day had just come to a close.

Everyone was so generous, players often transferring more than their bid and lots of the membership supporting the event with donations and good wishes for the day.

The Just Giving page is now closed, with you, the members of Chorleywood Lawn Tennis Club raising the incredible amount of £4,598 plus Gift Aid of £1,101.25 for a fantastic total of £5699.25 to Cancer Research UK.

This incredible amount is all down to you, the wonderful, generous members of CLTC and of course the awesome Roy Richardson.

Roy said after his incredible effort: “I wish to thank everyone at Chorleywood Lawn Tennis Club for their participation and generosity in making this unique event such a tremendous success; I couldn’t have done it without you.  Rasing much needed funds for Cancer Research UK means so much to me and I shall be forever grateful”.

Thank you all so much!

Kind regards, Chris
