Update on the Rule of 6 Law

Update on the Rule of 6 Law

Dear Member,

The LTA have now updated their guidance given the Government announcement regarding the incoming ‘Rule of 6’ which comes into effect on Monday 14th September.
Their detailed ‘Guidance for tennis venues’, ‘Guidance for tennis coaches’ & ‘Guidance for tennis players’ documents have been similarly updated:

INFORMAL SOCIAL PLAY

  • For informal social play, from Monday 14 September group size is limited to a maximum of six people by law. This means you can play tennis providing you only meet up with no more than 5 other people from different households and observe social distancing guidelines.
  • People should not go to a tennis venue socially in groups of more than six.
  • CLTC’s interpretation of this is that our members do not go to our tennis club socially in groups of more than 6 for informal social play (it tends to be a group of 4) so this may continue.

ORGANISED ACTIVITY

  • Organised activity for larger groups, including coached sessions, club nights and competitions is permitted by the Government as an exception to the limit of six, and so can continue, provided that venues, coaching providers and event organisers follow LTA COVID-19 secure guidelines.
  • Again, CLTC’s interpretation of this is that our regular scheduled social sessions, coaching and team events are indeed organised activities (the Club follows LTA Covid-19 secure guidelines) so may continue.

However, regrettably it is clear that members have become complacent regarding social distancing on the patio area after tennis.

Consequently, to encourage appropriate social distancing after tennis, we have separated the tables as per the rough diagram below (I hope it displays correctly on your device). You will also see a picture below of how this now looks. A third matching table should be with us early next week.

Firstly, please do not move these tables, benches, or chairs. They are deliberately positioned separately to ensure no more than 6 people sit around any one table.

Secondly and more importantly, please do not become complacent regarding social distancing. If you feel uncomfortable that someone is too close to you, do not feel awkward in telling them and move away.

We must renew our social distancing diligence given the increase in infections.

We must do all that we can to both encourage and demonstrate our social distancing is appropriate otherwise the closedown of the tennis club may be the unfortunate outcome.

Thank you very much for your time.
